The Virgen Alegria del Encuentro icon, is the depiction of the Joy of Mary in meeting her Son at dawn, on the day of His Resurrection. This event is celebrated annually in all churches of the Philippines during Eastertide.

The Virgen Alegria del Encuentro also known locally as the Birhen ng Salubong, re-enacts the the event when Blessed Mother was in grief and was shrouded with a black veil while mourning for her buried Son. On the dawn of Easter, She meets her resurrected Son for the first time, and the veil is lifted by an angel and reveals the joy of the Mother of the Resurrected Christ in the Holy Encounter.
